RYE AND DISTRICT SEA CADETS WIN FIRST INDEFATIGABLE TROPHY
On Friday 25th May Colonel William O'Leary, Chairman of the Indefatigable Old Boys' Association travelled from Oxford to Rye to make a very special presentation.
The Southern Area unit was selected as the Most Improved Sea Cadet Unit in the United Kingdom in 2006 and was the first recipient of the solid silver Indefatigable Trophy.
The trophy, once the Royal Navy Swimming Cup, is so valuable it has to remain in the old T.S Indefatigable College in Anglesey and the winning units receive a shield to keep.
The college closed in 1995 but is now a joint services training establishment for outdoor activities, including adventure training.
The Indefatigable Old Boys Association decided to present the trophy annually to the Sea Cadet Corps and Col O'Leary presented it to Lt (SCC) David Spicer RNR, Commanding Officer of T.S.Rye.
Several members of the Old Boys attended the ceremony, along with Mrs Jack Gore, Deputy Lieutenant of East Sussex, local Mayors, members of the Royal Naval Association and the Royal British Legion. Southern Area Sea Cadets were represented by the Deputy Area Officer, Major Andy Henderson RM and Area Chairman Chris Ledger.
After a short ceremony the guests were entertained to a sumptuous buffet provided by the staff at T.S. Rye.
