Sometimes, it isn't always possible to carry out boating, for example in the winter when it is dark by 20:00. During this period which usually lasts from mid September through to April, we carry out specialisations and proficiencies which are usually class based sessions.
Meteorology is one of these proficiencies.
The main aims of meteorology proficiency is to introduce the subject and to promote awareness throughout the cadets everyday life, and in particular its importance in relation to other Sea Cadet Subjects such as Sailing, Expedition Training and Canoeing.
Cadets learn the about equipment used in taking Meteorlogical Observations and how to use it correctly and how to accuratley record observations in a Nationaly recognised format.
This is the units Stevenson Screen, it houses the units hygrometer and maximum/minimum thermometers.

They are also able to gather information from the automatic weather station that is attached to the unit.

The weather station includes an anemometer for recording wind speed and direction, a temperature/humidity recorder and an automatic hygrometer for recording rainfall.
Check the automatic weather station data here.
